If this method doesn't work, try applying heat for longer, but not more than 15 seconds at a time. Apply thermal paste to both the GPU and the CPU and reassemble the heatsink. Wait about 3-5 minutes for the GPU to cool down. Heat up the GPU with a small circular motion that's centralized on the GPU die. Once clean, turn on your heat gun and set it to 400F. Just be careful not to break off any motherboard components. Remove the heatsink and clean off the silver thermal paste off both the CPU and the GPU. Take apart the Mac and remove the logic board.
